Is anybody happy with their sound card?

I have KAE installed on my computer. I tried the CA Audigy but couldn't seem to get it to cooperate with the program. Has anybody purchased a sound card that they are happy with and that works well with KAE as far as sample rate, latency options, etc. If so let me know what kind it is and where I can get it? I would appreciate the help. Thanks

I use an M-Audio Quattro, and it works well with KAE. No problems in recording four tracks simultaneously.

I have 3 sound cards, Creative Labs SB0090, CT4780, CT4830. They all work fine for me. I don't have any problem with out of sync tracks. Like Smurf, I use the kX drivers instead of Creative Labs.

Soundcard Thing!

Zulu?s soundcard!

I got a computer with a soundcard. I don?t know what the hell is it, or is it good or bad in terms of quality, but it works well enough for me,for my purposes/needs, which is mostly just demoing my songideas and playing the role of greatest composer of the world (in my head).

Greetings from the local hospital, from baby room...Zulumaaan!

A computer, a soundcard , memory... well, I think 512mb, AMD Athlon 3000Xp processor (or was it a proffessor?),CPU...well enough....Win XP (with SP2)...and a hole on my computer?s ass, where I can plug my guitar via pre- amp.:P

I forget to mention that I ?m very very very happy with my soundcard, smiling everytime I work with KAE, I would probably kiss my soundcard after every recording session if I could. And it works, folks!

Disappointing,
I went to buy the sb0229(SoundBlaster Live LS) and installed the kx driver, but had problems because I could only use asio at a 48k sample rate. Shouldn't the kx driver work with all the soundblaster cards or do I need to try a different one?

Here is the "not up to date" list of supported kX cards.

I think the SB04xx series is in the "maybe by the final release of the next version-3538" category.

According to one of the moderators of the kX site about the SB0400:

"support for this card is being worked on as we speak"

Hey Guys,
I got the sb0090 in just today and installed the kx driver with it after I installed the creative driver that came with the card. When I open kristal I still get a message that there is no hardware found to support asio. I thought that this combination was known to work. Please help with any suggestions. Thanks.

You don't want the Kreative drivers, they have to be completely uninstalled before installing the kX drivers.

Read throught the Getting Started Guide

http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/guide/index.html

There are some tweaks you have to do in Windows beyond just installing the kX drivers so if you don't read the guide, your card won't work.

I just read the guide for installing the kx driver and realized that the sample rate must be 48k or it will not record audio, but I thought that standard rate was 44.1. Is there anybody out there recording at 44.1?

How come when I try to install the kx driver, it asks me about the driver for the sb0095? I have the sb0090. Do I have the wrong setup file? It is the kx 3537 that I am trying to run. Please help. I have gone through so much to try and find the right soundcard for Kristal and the proper software, and nothing is working for me the way I expected it to yet. What am I doing wrong?

Don't worry about that, it is normal kX behavior-I don't know why.

Then shouldn't I be able to record audio at 44.1 on Kristal or am I stuck with 48? Is it supposed to give me a message that it failed to set sample rate to 44.1k every time I open or create a project?

I have the kx driver installed and I set playback to 44.1. But I can only record through my cd-rom using Music Match. I can't record through any other input device on the soundcard. As a matter of fact, I dont think I am showing any active inputs from Kristal. How do I fix this?

What I did was I only installed the kx driver and not the creative driver. I changed the sample rate in the asio control panel through kristal. I did not do anything to tweak windows before or after installing kx. I am trying to record covers from karaoke tracks just utilizing two tracks, karaoke recording and vocal track, then I create a mixdown. Like I mentioned about my inputs not showing, I obviously skipped something in the installation process or something. I will read the guide more thoroughly about the ins and outs, and if anybody can give me suggestions on what to do that would be great. Thanks.

Windows XP, realtek ac97, installed SB0090 sound card, running kx project, 256 MB Ram

In the Audio Setup Menu through KAE. I have outputs showing but not the inputs. Right now the soundcard is out of the computer and I am just running off of ac97 until I can find a solution. Thanks for all of your input thus far.

Ugh -- this is why I use a cheap DAW for recording Audio. (Boss BR-864). The newer BR-900 has a built in CD burner -- pretty cool.

The Boss recorders have great pre-amps with effects, somewhat limited effects for mixing, and a good mastering kit (which I normally don't use, though). What I usually do is either download the raw tracks from the Boss to Kristal for mixing, or mix the tracks on the recorder and download the stereo track to Kristal for mastering, trimming, etc. The lower-end DAWs, like the BR-864 and, I think, the Fostex MR-8, do compress the audio, so the sound quality is not quite as high as you might get in a high quality computer recording. However, it eliminates the latency issues, dropouts, pre-amp problems, sound card compatibility issues, etc.
