February '08Challenge

Okay, folks, I'm still on 12 hr shifts, and mental capacity is not really running much above breath-heartbeat-breath-heartbeat.:P Nevertheless, here follows the new Challenge before us;

Continuing Spiral's excellent theme of hope, our theme will be faith. You must use the word "faith" either in the title or the lyric. :D

we've pretty much run the gamut of "has to end in G#", or "needs a bar of 37/7 in the second bridge", so let's just say that it has to be radio length. Your song has to come in at 3:30 or under.;)

That's it, kids. Give us faith in under three-and-a-half minutes, and you're in the berries.:P:D:cool:

A deadline of Feb 22 gives us four full weeks to work. I'll ask Master Wodini to set up a new page, and we're off.

One more thing--lets try to set a record for entries.
:D

Excellent, thanks for getting that in so fast! So simple even a drummer can take another shot! I'll give it some serious thought and maybe I can contribute.

Your time length rule is a little vague. Radio length is what I think it is, (more than 2:00/2:30) not to exceed 3:30 correct? I get the general idea and, I like it!

Can I just cover the George Michael tune?:D:P:cool:

Hmmm...I just might take part in this one. Still pretty much learning the basics, so it should be interesting. Oh yeah, and I'm getting my keyboards back on the 31st (loaned to a friend, long ago) so that should create some new inspiration. My first Challenge! Nobody laugh, OK? Well, actually you could, I wouldn't hear you over the net!

Wow. I don't know what to say. After my previous post, I went and listened to all the entries from the January challenge. I don't know that my chops are up to what you guys put out. There's some amazing cuts there. I'm kinda overwhelmed right now. I think I will still try the Faith challenge (can't hurt, right?) but I'm definitely knocked down a notch or two. I think I can come up with something worthwhile, but I'm afraid it won't be of the technical quality of the works you guys have done. I'm sure that'll get better in time, as I learn more of the technicals, but for now, hey, I think I'm gonna submit anyway. Probably something very minimal and basic. I probably should wait until I've learned DAW better, but...this is too much fun to pass up!

Oh, and...sorry for the double/triple post, but I wanted to ask. Can the cuts on Soundclick be d/loaded? I'd love to put a compilation CD together of the different challenges. There's awesome music there, that no one can buy in a store. I do the cooking at home, and there's two things that are a "must have" as I'm cooking: a nice Cabernet, and a good CD playing in the rack in the kitchen. I'd love to be listening to this stuff while I'm at the stove. Of course, goes without saying, I'm happy to pay for that. Screw I-Tunes, this is the REAL music. Can this be done?

On soundclick, the download option is set by the person who uploads the song. So when you put your song on there, just make it available for download (mp3) there is a little icon of a downward arrow by the song in the music section. Just click that and it downloads.

Hey Bgaam, my condolences to you. That's a heart wrenching thing to go through. I've gone through similar circumstances myself this year and I know it makes you feel helpless. Give your friend your best love and he will have comfort in that. My best thoughts to you.

It's good to have more freedom after some more specific challenges.
Lyrical theme is interesting as well.

Great Challenge OG, I'm sure something will come to me...eventually. Feb 22 hey, better get started!:D

Jump in jm, it is THE best way to learn how to use Kristal.;)
Allow yourself plenty of time and be organized in your approach.
If you go back a year and listen to some of the earlier entries and I think you will notice a vast improvement in all of us home writers / recorders (well maybe not Dino & OG, they were always good) but certainly me & Spiral (hope you agree Spiral).
Then after a few months and a few entries you start to look back on what you've done and leared and begin to explore new boundaries and look for new sounds all over again.
Feel free to download any of my songs.

Good. Glad we like it. And yes, my recording skills have grown by leaps and bounds--go check out Demons Behind the Glass, my first Challenge song.

I forgot to mentio in my guidelines, for any newbies wanting to dive in let's not have any parental advisories, OK?;) This is a family show.

And Spiral, thanks for the bling...:P:D:cool:

Hey JM dont be intimidated. There is no rule that we vote for the best technical recording, we just vote for the song we like best. For some that might mean the best sound, for others that might mean the best lyrics, for others it might be the song that gets stuck in your head the most. (OG's tune is still stuck in my head)

OG, no poopy noises this time I promise!

Bgaam, sorry about your buddy. An old friend of mine died of esophegeal cancer last year and another aquaintance of mine just had a stroke and died. Both were under 40 yrs old.
Life has no guarantees.

Yesterday was the past. Tomorrow is the future. RIGHT NOW, is a gift, so enjoy the present.

I must say I rather like it.:D Now the challenge is to keep it in the States...;)

Sorry I neglected your question, cleanrug. No limit on how short the song is, just the max length at 3:30 min.:D

I think the everyone has improved that enters on a regular basis, be it mixing, writing, or arranging. There is some great talent here, and more join every day. That is what makes this forum different from most others, we give each other a pat on the back when needed, and a slap on the rump when needed!:D And it is all to help in the goal of being a better musician and engineer.:)

SO......all you "lurkers" out there, jump in and have some fun!

Thanks Smurf. It is apparantly the worst kind to get... has already spread to lymph, lung, and liver...

Thing is... as selfish as it may sound... if I was home recording that is about the only thing that I have to concentrate on enough to temporarily push it aside a bit...

See Bob, I really wanted to make an entire album of KAE challenges and post em on my site this year... just keep adding to the collection... Maybe when I get back to Arizona and re-settled I can at least get some in...
