hammerhead drum track ready

Who's next to get the collab song? I think it's squire, so I'm going to send it to him! Sending one MP3 of just the drums done in Hammerhead for now, and another of the guitar part with the drums so you can hear how I lined up the count at the start. Sending now! ANDY

qatcho:
I'm using QCD player version 4.51 and using a plugin for LAME MP3 encoding. I think the settings are pretty straight forward. Just remember to check that it's encoding VBR and not set bitrate.

Player: http://www.quinnware.com/
plugin: http://www.quinnware.com/list_plugins.php?plugin=25

Just so nobody thinks I forgot about the song, I haven't. I fully plan to have a bass part added this weekend. I wanted to work on it this week, but I got side tracked (I bought a cheapy keyboard [Yamaha PXR272] and I've been practicing. I've NEVER played keys before in my life. In some ways it makes more sense than guitar...anyway, I digress) Who's next in line to put their part on? -Squire

Afaik the song doesn?t have a name yet... as the lyrics are missing.

And a band name ? Good idea!

Have you guys ever visited this web site called "The Band Name Generator?" It's hysterical. Just refresh your screen to keep changing the list that you see when you first bring up the page.

http://www.elsewhere.org/cgi-bin/bandname

If that wasn't enough fun, check out this site of weird band names. These are ACTUAL BANDS. Some of the names are rather vulgar, while others are downright hilarious.

http://sam.hochberg.com/bandname.html

It's a fun way to kill off an hour or two...

I'm happy to report that I finished up a bass part for the collaborative effort last evening. As soon as I get home from work today, I'll convert the files to MP3s and send them to qatcho, Andy, and mcart. I plan to send qatcho an MP3 of the entire mix as well as the bass file alone; conversely, I figured I would just send an MP3 of the mix (guitar + HH drums + bass) to mcart and Andy so that they can here how things are progressing. Does that sound Kosher? (or would you guys like the bass file separately as well?). Is there anyone else who would like an MP3 of the mix to hear how the song is coming along? (Timmeh and/or Dino perhaps?); if so, I'll send the mix your way (I'm sure your e-mail addresses are on at least one of these threads).

As a reminder (and to keep everyone from having to search through this thread) the progression again is: G, D, G, C (3X) then Em, C, G, D (X1). Then repeat. The bridge is Em, Bm, C, D (X1). I'll include the progression again in the e-mail when I send the file(s).

Despite my plan not to use any effects, I did use "Full Compression" on the bass part (from the Krystalizer FX). It really seemed to improve the sound. I just thought I'd mention this as an FYI for whoever does the final mix (and of course they can choose to use the same FX, a different FX, or no FX).

I think that's about it. Like I said, I'll send the MP3s off this evening. -Squire

Alright. The bass starts right on the first note when you're lining the tracks up. I'm going to send the files out shortly. -Squire

got it!

The bass sounds good. Very tasteful! Could I ask how you recorded it, what bass was used, etc? It sounds like its a mic'd amp...thats all I know for sure (well, reasonably sure). I need to pry my father-in-law's fingers off the 1970 Rickenbacher bass he has! He won't let it out of the house because it belonged to a friend who died. I say, pass it on and let it live...but I have a biased view of that!

Squire I got the files. The song is sounding great. I love the bass you did. Andy the drums are going well. I know you're not finished yet, I love when the ride kicks in. Keep it going.

I'm glad you got the files and that you like the bass track. When I listen to it by itself it seems rather lame, but when it's thrown in the mix it seems to work.

I used my trusty Squire P-bass plugged directly into the (Behringer) mixer (with no effects added). On Saturday I recorded the bass part and thought I had it down, but when I listened to it back on Sunday I noticed 2 big probelems: distortion and a continual wrong note (C instead of a D) every few measures. So, I redid the part playing correct notes and lowering the input signal.

I'm really curious to see what kind of lyrics and melody are chosen for this song. If it turns out really good, it would be neat to try and release it somehow (and donate all proceeds to Katrina victims). As you see, I'm a pretty big dreamer...it keeps me going though. :D

Got it!
Sounds good this far.
I?m rather short of time at the moment because of my exam, but at friday it?s finally over.
So I hope I can finish my parts (piano, vox, lyrics) over the weekend or the beginning of the next week.

Greets,

qatcho
