yeah!

Yeah, send me MP3. Is each track a separate MP3? That would be the way to do it, no? This is all new to me! It will probably take me a few days to put the drums down. Normally I record drums to 4-track cassette, but in this case, I'm going to be borrowing my brother-in-law's laptop to do it. What I mean is, I have to do this on his terms, so it could be a few days! But I'll get it going asap!

Well right now its just guitar. I double tracked the rhythm guitar and panned 70/30 left and right.

Just tls pocket limiter on the master and no compression. I dont think its a good idea to be adding a bunch of compression at this point unless needed for an instrument. IMO. I'll send an mp3.

mono is fine

I agree about compression as well. Keep it to a minimum for now. Update...It will probably be Saturday before I can do the drums, so don't hold your breath! ANDY

got it, but...

Getting a click/pop noise on the MP3, like every second or so. I converted to wav and imported into Kristal, and it still pops. Maybe try converting it again and resend? ANDY

I'll start working on a bass part (using the loop Timmeh posted), then when the drums are added I should (hopefully) be in a position to lay down the bass track in a timely manner. This seems to be moving right along...:)

Mccart,

Cool; thanks. My e-mail would be:

thewerdz@yahoo.com

BTW, thanks again for the info. on the minihost and soundfonts. For a first effort, I'm working on putting a flute part over an acoutstic guitar progression; I figure I'll work my way up to some more difficult parts in due time. So far, things are sounding good. It seems that the timing will be the hardest thing for me (the song is in 3/4) but I'm sure I'll figure it out with enough practice.
Thanks again, -Scott (Squire)

only problem I see

The only thing I can see being a problem from a drum point of view, is not really knowing the structure of the song right now. What if I just put a straight beat to it using Hammerhead, then keep passing it around to add other parts? My way of putting together a drum part plays pretty heavily off the location and phrasing of the vocals. There's nothing I hate more than a drummer playing fills over the vocal lines! Anyway, I'll do the simple HH beat first and send that to Squire when done. Mcart, have you re-sent the original file yet? I don't think I saw it in my email. ANDY

I know what you mean (about playing off the vocals etc.); sounds like a good plan to me.

next problem!

The track as sent to me gets off the KAE click track. Perhaps I can play with it in Audacity to get it to line up better? I'll try later! A

try the metronome

I would say for this project, and especially since timmeh cut the original guitar with it, use the KAE metronome at 120 BPM. That should keep it constant for all involved.

Music Cooperation on KAE-Forum ?(What)

Blobohura Kjudo Hobu!

I just want to give my offical statement ( my pr- man forced to do this, zorry guys!) that I?m the king of the jungle, and it would be very humiliating for a "MAAN" on my position, as a full time tribe leader and crazyhead to co-operate with other people outside the jungle, cause you see, I would loose the respect of my own people and my face on the eyes of them, soo I can?t do it ...but I wish you guys get your project/thing working. Cause the idea is very open minded and warm hearted.

Xcubu Gondu hoba........Zulumaan!!!!

new version sounds good

I got the new version of the guitar track. I played around a bit with some beats from Hammerhead. Everything sounds fine, no popping, and it looks like it keeps in time. I think at this point I will put a simple beat to it with Hammerhead, and send the files to whoever wants it next. Is that going to be squire? I guess I need to send one MP3 of the guitar part, and one of the drum beat. Then when the song is more fleshed out (at least when its got a rough vocal), I'll take it and put in the live drums. Does this sound like a plan? ANDY

another thought

Should someone set up a soundclick account for this? I was thinking we could all add our bits as seperate MP3's there, keep adding as we go. Or is it easier to just email the MP3's? I was just thinking by the time this gets closer to done, there will be 10 or 12 MP3 files eventually, so it might be a pain to email them.

Yes, I think a soundclick account would work.
But unfortunatly the Bitrate is limited at 128 kB.
I think for the final mix this is a bit crappy. Should be at least 192 kB.
So I think we should only email a Mixdown of all finished tracks to the next one.
Here he can add his track and sends his recored track to the person who does the final mix and the updated mixdown to the next one.
For sharing the latest mixdown a soundclick account would work, I think.

If you encode an mp3 with variable bitrate and the average is under 128, you can still post it. Actually, I'm not even sure soundclick knows what to do with VBR MP3's because I'm posting all my songs with VBR between 160-192 Kbps and it never hassles me.
